Education Program
Do you know a youth who is interested in museums, history, and artwork?
Nose Creek Valley Museum is actively seeking 10 people 12-17, to take part in our 2024, Junior Curator’s initiative. The program runs on the third Sunday of each month - January to May – from 1:00 to 3:00pm.
During these 5 sessions, participants will journey behind the museum façade to discover the nuances of artifact collection and preservation, as well as exhibit production.
The sessions are arranged as follows:
January 21, 2024 - Backstage Pass
• Our Junior Curators receive a private tour and a behind-the-scenes look at Nose Creek Valley Museum’s more than 25,000 artefacts.
February 18, 2024 - Artefact 101
• Our Junior Curators walk through the lifecycle of an artefact – accession, catalogue, display, and the circumstances under which a museum will deaccession an artefact.
March 19, 2024 - Surf and Search
• Junior curators discover what each artefact has to offer and how it fits with the rest of our collection. What stories will each piece help us share?
April 21, 2024 - Activate Your Audience
• Learn how museums decide which artefacts to display and which stories to tell. Community engagement is the key to any successful exhibit.
May 19, 2024 - The Glue
• Our Junior Curators put all of these pieces together to research, choose artefacts, tear down our previous exhibit, and finally construct our 2024 feature exhibit ‘Haunted Alberta’. The exhibit build will take place through the summer with opening night scheduled in October, 2024 (date to be announced).
Cost: nominal fee of $10/session to register.

Calling all crafters, artists, and creatives! Nose Creek Valley Museum would love to partner with you in a fundraising endeavour to grow your audience!
Upon expression of interest, we will provide you with a small, plaster tealight holder. You then use the holder as a blank canvas, working your artistic/crafty magic! Once completed, and before noon, February 12th, you return your finished tealight holder to the museum.
Each finished piece will be photographed and posted in the Facebook group, 'Nose Creek Valley Museum – Community Events’. All tealight holders will be arranged for public display at Airdrie City Hall.
This event is not limited to professional artists! If you are creative and would like to try your hand at exhibiting your work, we would love to partner with you! There is no age limit, but you must live in Alberta to participate. Numbers are limited!
Should you or someone you know wish to participate, please reach out to Nose Creek Valley Museum.
Bidding starts February 20 and closes at 4:00 pm on Saturday, March 16. The highest bid on each tealight holder at that time will purchase the tealight holder. 50% of the proceeds will go to the museum, and 50% will go to the designer. Payment must be received by Nose Creek Valley Museum by noon on Friday, March 22. If payment is not received at that time, we will move to the next bidder.
There are three ways you can submit your bids:
1. Through our Facebook group: Nose Creek Valley Museum - Community Events
2. In person at the Nose Creek Valley Museum
3. Email us at Ncvm.events@gmail.com
For updates, click on the ‘More Information’ link below to follow us on Facebook, or visit us in person at the Nose Creek Valley Museum.
On Sunday, March 23rd, we will hold a ‘meet the artist’ afternoon at the Nose Creek Valley Museum, where winning bidders will be able to collect their pieces and meet the artists. Everyone is welcome to join!
