NCVM values our partnership with our Sponsors. NCVM recognizes there are many opportunities for sponsorship in our region. We encourage you to closely examine all that we can offer to you.

Volunteer

Your greatness is not what you have, but what you give.

Being a museum volunteer is a great way to give back to the community.

The museum is looking for involvement of people with a wide range of skills, knowledge, and expertise. We will work with each individual to match their attributes and their availability to museum activities and needs.

The work is varied and can include activities such as participation in the current museum programs or assisting with research and clerical activities.

If you would like to volunteer, please call the museum at 403.948.6685 during regular museum operational hours to arrange an appointment with the volunteer coordinator.

All volunteer opportunities will be posted on the museum's main bulletin board and on the museum's website under Volunteer Opportunities as they become available.

Current volunteer opportunities at NCVM include the following:

Content Writer

Suitability: Adult

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Provide relative content for blogs, the museum’s social media platforms, the museum website, and for print articles.

Generate new ideas for content that will promote our membership, increase the number of people visiting the museum and its social media sites, and creating an improved awareness of the Nose Creek Valley Museum and its activities.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM US

An encouraging environment that will allow you to use, further develop, and showcase your creative communication skills.
Access to all of the museum’s files and archives to assist in content development.
The opportunity to work with a small staff and volunteer team that are committed to telling the museum’s story, and sharing the history of the Nose Creek Valley.
We are looking for a consistent time commitment and are seeking a volunteer that is willing to provide a minimum of four hours per week.
This opportunity can be performed onsite or remotely.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

Effective communication skills.
The ability to work both independently and in a small team environment.
The exhibition of the use of excellent writing, proofreading and editing skills, and the ability to improve content readability.
A proven ability to communicate using all museum social media platforms.
Participation in the development of content for advertising campaigns.
A passion for history, people, and effective story telling.
A good eye for detail.
The ability to work to deadlines.
There is a need to undergo a Police Information Check prior to your first volunteer shift.

Tour Guide

Suitability: Individual Adult (18+)

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Assist in the delivery of museum school tours using the backdrop of the six permanent museum displays.

School tours are curriculum based and can include grades K-9. Teachers tailor their requirements based on their school teaching modules. Each school, and often individual classes from the same school, dictate the date on which tours will occur and at what times the tours will start and end.

There are additional occasions where you may be asked to lead tours for other groups, or participate in museum special events.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM US

On the job training consisting of job shadowing experienced museum Tour Guides as they lead tour groups through the museum. In addition, documentation is available that provides talking points for each of the permanent displays.
The opportunity to gain first hand knowledge of the history of the Nose Creek Valley.
The opportunity to work with a staff and volunteer team that are committed to developing and delivering high quality programs.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

The ability to work both independently and in a small team environment.
A passion for people and story telling, coupled with the ability to communicate effectively with all age groups.
The ability to use both of Canada’s Official Languages, while not a requirement, would be an asset.
An interest in local history.
A good eye for detail.
A desire to make a difference in the community.
There is a need to undergo a Criminal Record Information Check and a Vulnerable Sector Check prior to leading tours.
